Plants
My path to studying plants was somewhat unexpected. Initially focused on studying insect-derived materials for biomedical applications, I began my PhD in biomedical engineering at the University of Delaware but struggled to find a compatible lab. A pivotal moment came during a lecture by Dr. Erin Sparks, who discussed applying engineering principles to study maize brace roots. Inspired, I transferred to her lab in plant and soil sciences, where I discovered a passion for plant biomechanics. Dr. Sparks also encouraged me to combine science with illustration, leading to the creation of LindZeamays Illustration.
I am immensely grateful to Erin and all the mentors who have supported and continue to support my journey in science illustration.
Through illustration, I aim to capture the intricacies of plants from a scientist's perspective, allowing researchers to share both the research and the beauty surrounding the organisms they study.
